Three events across one weekend, held each August near Layne’s birthday.
Thursday, August 20 · Free
Fan Gathering at the International Fountain
7:00 PM — Seattle Center International Fountain, 305 Harrison St., Seattle WA 98109
A fan-organised gathering to meet, reconnect and remember. Layne’s mother Nancy, his father Phil, Gayle Starr and others will be there. Bring a decorated candle and join the community in honouring Layne, Mike Starr, Chris Cornell, Andy Wood, Kurt Cobain, Mark Lanegan, Shawn Smith, and all the Seattle musicians gone too soon.

Grunge Night — A Tribute to Seattle Music
The Showbox, 1426 1st Ave, Seattle WA 98101 — doors 7:00 PM, show 8:00 PM. All ages, bar with ID.
$25 advance / $35 door / $40 advance all-ages
Featuring Outshined (Soundgarden), Negative Creep (Nirvana) and Washed in Black (Pearl Jam), plus special guests playing the songs that defined the Seattle sound.

Bring a Candle to the Fountain
Decorated candles are a part of the Thursday gathering, and we now stock candles in the store — soy candles and tin candles both. If you’re travelling in for the weekend, order ahead and bring it with you.
This Angry Pen of Mine
Layne’s journals — handwritten lyrics, personal poetry, original artwork, rare photographs and fan tributes. An intimate look at the private life behind the public voice. A portion of every sale supports the Memorial Fund at Therapeutic Health Services.

The Mobile Unit Is Out There
The Layne Staley Mobile Medical Unit is no longer an announcement — it’s on the road and treating people. Run by Therapeutic Health Services, it brings addiction treatment directly to low-income housing and tiny home villages across Seattle, reaching up to 250 people a day, Monday through Saturday, at a minimum of three sites daily.
It carries Layne’s image on the side. THS was one of the organisations that supported him during his own struggle — a detail nobody involved has forgotten. People in pain deserve to be met where they are, rather than made to fight their way to help. That’s the whole idea, and it’s now driving from neighbourhood to neighbourhood.
The Site Has Been Improved
If you’ve visited recently and found the site slow, we have taken steps to accelerate performance. Pages that used to take fifteen to twenty seconds now load in a fraction of a second — the difference between waiting and simply arriving. That came from upgrading our hosting service.
The site has also been rebuilt for phones. Previously it served a desktop page shrunk down small enough to need pinching and zooming on every page. There is now a mobile layout: readable text, a proper menu, and a store you can check out from on a phone.
The merchandise store has grown as well — tees, hoodies, flannels, tanks, posters, mugs, beanies and candles, with more being added. Every purchase supports the Memorial Fund.
